Education wing to get more power
Hyderabad: Barring medical, agriculture and pharmacy, all other courses in the state handled by various departments will be brought under the education department soon.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao took this decision while discussing budgetary allocation to various departments. Mr Chandrasekhar Rao found the education department in a mess and decided to streamline the same in a phased manner.
Schools, junior colleges, colleges, vocational courses, study circles and others would be brought under one roof. The government recently took a decision to open 60 residential schools for minorities and the same will also be handled by education department.
The CM also indicated that other educational institutions under SC, ST, BC and ITIs under labour department too should be brought under education department for proper administration.
“Due to handling of education by various departments, the quality of education has been badly affected. There is also a need to have tailor made job courses. Apart from TSPSC and UPSC, focus should also be on other recruiting institutions including railways and banking,” he told the meeting.
The CM also told officials to ascertain the number of doctors, engineers and others specialists in the state, adding that they should also study the entire education system and courses offered and prepare a blueprint.
