Thanjavur: Relief to the tune of Rs 243 crore has been distributed so far to 'Gaja' affected people in the district, said district collector A. Annadurai, on Tuesday.

He reviewed the relief given by Pattukottai and Peravurani taluk offices and assistant director of agriculture office at Madukkur.

He later said that a sum of Rs 1.70 crore has been deposited in the bank accounts of kin of 17 deceased in the cyclone at the rate of Rs 10 lakh per head.
For nearly 1,30,410 persons who lost their houses, a sum of Rs 70.50 crore had been deposited in the bank accounts. For people and fishermen who stayed in relief camps, a sum of Rs 59.65 crore had been deposited in the bank accounts of 1,19,315 persons as livelihood assistance at the rate of Rs 5,000 per family.
Kits with 27 articles were distributed to 1,08,772 families. A sum of Rs 508.34 crore has been allotted for disbursing to farmers for crop damage.

In that, a sum of Rs 58.34 crore had been disbursed to 14,512 coconut farmers. A sum of Rs 3.29 crore has been allotted for providing relief to farmers, whose horticulture crops had been damaged.

Out of this amount, a sum of Rs 1.49 crore had been disbursed to 2,792 farmers.

The collector appealed to the people affected by 'Gaja' cyclone and who have not received relief to approach the taluk and agriculture offices in their area for getting the relief.
