4.21 lakh to get Pongal gifts in Dharmapuri

Dharmapuri: At a government function at Pennagaram on Tuesday, State Higher Education Minister K.P. Anbalagan, disbursed welfare assistance to various beneficiaries. As many as 800 people got aid worth over Rs 1.56 crore in the presence of district collector S. Malarvizhi, and others.

The minister, while speaking on the occasion, said, "I feel happy in handing over the welfare schemes to the people who have been selected by the revenue, rural development, and agriculture and horticulture departments of this district." He continued, "864 beneficiaries have been given welfare assistance worth Rs 1,56,78,000."

"Dharmapuri has effectively implemented the Amma two-wheeler scheme. The district was given 2,097 numbers as the target in 2017-2018. So far, 1,293 people were given two-wheelers in both urban and rural areas worth over Rs. 3.85 lakh," he said.

Anbalagan also asked the district officials to have special focus in distributing the gift hampers to the card holders without pilferages. The distribution of 'Pongal' gift packs started here after the minister inaugurated this event a few days ago.

"The CM Rs 2,678 for card-holders across the state for the Pongal festival. Of this, Rs 2,020 crore will be spent for cash gift of Rs 1,000 for each card holder.

Around Rs 258 crore for 'Pongal' gift hampers and Rs 400 crore for the free dhoti and saree scheme, Anbalagan said.

In Dharmapuri, 4.21 lakh card holders will get Pongal gifts. Of them, 3.07 lakh card holders are eligible for free dhotis and sarees.
