Prof. N Prabhudeva said the credibility of varsity depends on how it conducts exams and announces results.

Bengaluru: Transparency in the evaluation process and strictly adhering to a scientific time-table for exams and results were the key concerns raised by experts at a meeting convened at the Bengaluru Central University (BCU) on Tuesday.

Experts from the fields of literature, education, arts and administration had got together to discuss the vision and action plan of the newly-formed varsity.

“Transparency in evaluation and other varsity-related processes, credibility of degree certificates issued are factors that needs to be looked into right from the beginning,” he said.

Corroborating his views, former minister Prof B.K. Chandrasekhar said the varsity has the responsibility to improve the situations the prevailing negative sentiment of ‘BU candidates need not apply’. He also called for a Centre for Dialogue to encourage free thinking among students at the varsity would be useful for the society as well as the individual.

Former director of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Prof H.A. Ranganath said the varsity should look into developing diversity and mobility among faculty and students instead of restricting its activities within the political constituencies included under its jurisdiction.
