H D Kumaraswamy faces Rs 1 crore suit for false charge'

The case was filed a day after HDK alleged that a BJP leader was behind the murder of Deepak Rao.

Mangaluru: Mangaluru City North constituency BJP leaders have filed a defamation case of Rs 1 crore against JD(S) state president H.D. Kumaraswamy.
The case was filed a day after HDK alleged that a BJP leader was behind the murder of Deepak Rao. "Kumaraswamy, who does not know anything about the situation here, gives a statement sitting in Mysuru. His statements not only confuse people but also mislead the investigation," Mangaluru City North constituency BJP president Bharath Shetty told reporters.

"We have taken it seriously. and have filed a case in the Mangaluru court. Vikas Puttur and Ashok are witnesses in the case. All related documents have been submitted to the court," he said.

Mr Shetty also blamed local MLA Moideen Bava, brother of JD(S) leader Farooq, for giving irresponsible statements targetting the BJP. Meanwhile BJP corporator Tilak Raj has filed a complaint at the Surathkal police station against those who tried to defame him through misleading messages. No sooner than HDK made allegations against a 'BJP corporator,' messages were making the rounds in social media that Tilak Raj was responsible for the incident.

In a related development, Kannada film director Indrajit Lankesh visited the house of Deepak Rao and Basheer on Tuesday and handed over a cheque to both families.

In another development, police officials said that the allegations by one Bharath that some people wanted to attack him with lethal weapons were contradictory. "There are contradictions in the timing, number of people and the weapon they carried. However police have registered a complaint and are investigating," an officer said.
