Bengaluru molestation: Police chief briefs NCW on action taken

Sood narrated the entire sequel of events to her, from December 31, from the time he was transferred as the commissioner.

BENGALURU: Ms Sushma Sahu, a member of the National Commission for Women, on Monday met DG&IGP Om Prakash and City Police Commissioner Praveen Sood, and questioned them on the safety of women in the city in the backdrop of molestation cases at Kammanahalli and MG Road and Brigade Road last week.

In the Kamanahalli case, the police have arrested five accused. Sources said that Ms Sahu asked the top cops about these cases and the police action to ensure justice to the victims. Mr Sood narrated the entire sequel of events to her, from December 31, from the time he was transferred as the commissioner, to his taking charge on January 1, the cases that were registered and the progress that the police have made so far. He also spoke about the K.G. Halli case in which the victim and the accused had allegedly staged the molestation in front of a CCTV camera. On the alleged mass molestation case, he briefed her that the police have registered four cases based on the newspaper reports and have also asked the newspapers concerned to share the victims’ details with them in confidence, so that better action can be taken against the culprits. “So far, the police are yet to get any information from the media house. Mr Om Prakash and Mr Sood explained to Ms Sahu the safety measures, which have been put in place to enhance the safety of women in Bengaluru. The NCW member has asked for the records in all the cases,” said an officer.

Suspect in custody
K.G. Halli police have got six-day custody of Irshad Khan, brother-in-law of the complainant woman in the molestation case.

He was produced before a magistrate on Monday and remanded in police custody. Police are yet to question the complainant who is allegedly involved. “We will frame questions based on statements made by Khan, who claimed that even she was aware of their plan. We are also examining CCTV footage to ascertain the facts. We are yet to decide whether legal action should be initiated against her, if her role is found in the conspiracy,” sources added.
