Hyderabad: Ghar wapsi for Congress defectors

If they don’t get plum posts, they will return to Opposition.

Hyderabad: Several leaders from the Congress who had joined the TRS and the BJP would do a ‘ghar wapsi’ (return to the Congress) in case they do not get suitably rewarding positions in their new home.

Several Congress leaders including former minister D.K. Aruna and senior leader Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy joined the BJP prior to the Lok Sabha elections. Ms Aruna was defeated from the Mahbubnagar Lok Sabha constituency.

Congress sources said that Ms Aruna was promised a nominated post by the BJP in case she lost the election. Almost six months later, there is no indication of Ms Aruna getting the perk.

Ms Sunitha Lakshma Reddy and former Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy, Congress leaders, joined the TRS during the Lok Sabha polls. They are waiting on the sidelines. Mr B. Saraiah, a former Congress minister who joined the TRS five years ago, also has not got any post.

These leaders are reportedly telling their confidants that they are facing an embarrassing situation in their new parties and that they are not able to move freely in the ruling party circles or express their views freely.

They have even admitted to their close aides that the Congress was far better when compared with the atmosphere in the BJP and the TRS. If they do not get any positions in their new parties in the new year, they will return to the Congress.
