New project to ease water problems

The officials identified a site for the project behind Andhra Polytechnic College area.

Kakinada: Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) is taking up a major drinking water project at a cost of Rs.120 crore to cater the drinking water needs of the people.

A special drinking water project with filter plant will be set up at Jagannaickpur at a cost of Rs.60 crore for the residents of Jagannaickpur including Yetimoga. The water will be brought to Jagannaickpur project from Aratlakatta reservoir for which a separate pipeline would be laid through Kovvuru village. The project would supply water of 32 MLD to Jagannaicipur and Yetimoga people as aginst the 28 MLD actual requirement. The officials identified a site for the project behind Andhra Polytechnic College area.

Another water distribution network project is being also taken up in the same area at a cost of Rs.60 crore. With the execution of these projects, Kakinada people can get drinking water around the clock. The two projects are being taken up with Smart City funds.

Kakinada MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao said that the two projects would resolve the drinking water problems of the people of Kakinada. The separate water project would help residents of Jagannaickpur and Yetimoga people. He said that the Telugu Desam government is taking all steps to provide infrastructure and development projects to people of Kakinada.

According to sources, at present, water is being supplied to people of Jagannaickpur and Yetimoga through the main Victoria water works' project. However, in case o any natural calamity like a cyclone, there is a breakdown in the system and people have to face a lot of difficulties in getting potable water due to damaged pipelines and others. "If the projects are completed, most of these problems could be sorted out and people can get drinking water with full capacity,'' said the Superintendent Engineer of KMC Vijay Kumar.

Meanwhile, the people in many areas of the city like Dummulapet, Parlopet, some areas in Yetimoga and Jagannaickpur were facing problems getting drinking water especially during summer. Officials provide them water through tankers. Now, it is felt that the new water projects can sort out the problem to some extent.
