Guntur: Political parties worried over revision of voters lists

Highest number of voters to be removed from Narasaraopeta.

GUNTUR: Nearly 78,000 names would be removed from voters' lists in 12 municipalities of Guntur district, revealed the integrated and revised list of voters that emerged after a door-to-door survey was conducted in Narasaraopeta, Chilakaluripeta, Bapatla, Ponnur, Vinukonda, Tadepalli, Mangalagiri, Tenali, Repalle, Sattenapalli, Macharla and Piduguralla municipalities of Guntur district. There were 7,31,066 names in 12 municipalities. Of these 77,729 voters would be removed as their names were found as either double entries or bogus or had an address changed or the voters had migrated to another place.

The voters’ lists will be released on December 15 and new voters can apply for voting till December 31. The highest number of voters to be removed from Narasaraopeta municipality in Guntur district. 27,794 voter names will go off the list against the present total of 84,336 voters. Similarly 16,706 voters would be removed in Mangalagiri municipality against a total of 59,003 voters, 9,735 voters will be removed in Ponnur municipality against a total of 50,800 voters, 10,330 voters in Tenali municipality against a total of 1,41,928 voters, 8726 voters in Bapatla municipality against 51,493 total voters, 7,248 voters in Sattenapalli against a total of 41,228 voters, 9,402 voters against a total of 45,348 voters in Vinukonda, 16,177 voters in Macharla against a total of 48,363 voters, 8,787 voters in Piduguralla against 53,478 total voters, 6,711 voters in Chilakaluripeta against a total of 79,842 voters, 3,768 voters against a total of 35,749 voters in Repalle and 4,350 voters in Tadepalli municipality against a total of 39,498 voters.

The officials stated that the votes of residents of nearby hamlets and villages were registered in the municipalities and those names of voters who were residing in the villages and hamlets wou-ld be removed from muni-cipal voters list and will be included in the concer-ned village panchayats. The political parties are worried over the deletion of voters as this would af-fect the coming elections.

Telugu Desam leader of Narasaraopeta Mr. K Anjaneyulu alleged that 1.20 lakhs of people are living in the town but the officials are deleting the voters from the list without a proper survey. YSRC legal cell leader K. Bala Hanumantha Reddy also suspecting an improper survey demanded a resurvey of voters in Narasar-aopeta municipality. Lea-ders of other political pa-rties also met officials and demanded proper resurvey.

Responding to the demands, Narasaraopeta Municipal Commissioner A. Bhanu Prasad said the Booth Level Officers (BLO) and other employees were confused during the survey due to improper door numbers in Narasaraopeta and this might have caused them to miss 15,000 voters in the revision list. He said that a door-to-door resurvey would be conducted before the final revised list of voters was announced.
