Experts say Polavaram progress satisfactory
Rajahmundry: Experts from National Hydro Power Corporation inspected progress of execution of work on various components of Polavaram irrigation project and expressed satisfaction over the progress at Polavaram in West Godavari on Friday. Experts including Y.K. Chaubey, R.C. Sharma, Sankardeep and others inspected concrete mixing unit, diaphragm wall, spill way and cofferdam works. The project engineers explained to them the progress of work. Later, the team also inspected fabrication of radial gates.
Minister for water resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao later said at the project site that the state government had spent Rs 7,471 cr for execution of the project. Out of it, Rs 4,329 cr were released by the Centre to the state government and added that the Centre had also announced the release of Rs 318 cr soon. He said that with this, the Centre would be reimbursing Rs 4,647 cr to the state while Rs 2,844 cr was yet to be released to the state.
The minister said that the state government would submit bills for the Rs 2,544 cr spent on land acquisition for Polavaram project since 2014 to the Centre soon. He said that the expert panel from NHPC were briefed about progress of various works at the project site and added that they expressed satisfaction over progress of works. The minister said that Union minister for water resources Nitin Gadkari would visit Polavaram project on December 22 to review the progress of works at the site.
