Sculptors see surge in demand for Jayalalithaa's statue
KAKINADA: The upsurge of grief over the demise of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalilthaa has triggered a surge in demand for her statue. Orders are pouring from various places in Tamil Nadu to noted sculptors Dr P. Arun Prasad Vudayar and Karunakar Vudayar of Natha Rameswaram village at Penumantra in West Godavari district.
The sculptors have received several orders from various places like Tiruchy, Coimbatore, Madurai and Chennai in Tamil Nadu. They are carving six and half feet full size and bust size statues. ''In one or two days, the finishing works can be got ready and send it to their places’’ said Dr Vudayar. Dr Vudayar has carved more than 20,000 statues including 12,000 statues of late chief minister Y.S. Rajaskehara Reddy. The statues of Ambedkar and other national leaders, carved by him have been installed in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and other states. His carved statues have been installed in Tank Bund at Hyderabad. He received several awards like Ugadi Purskar and others and also been felicitated by many institutions.
