Khammam: With the shortage of small currency notes, bank employees have expressed their inability to pay Aasara pensions to senior citizens, disabled, etc.
“The only currency that we have now are Rs 2000 notes. We don’t have Rs 100 notes. Since we have to give Rs 1,000 each pensionee, we need a lot of small cash, which we don’t have. So we have told them bring Rs 1,000 change to get their pension,” N. Aravind, a bank official, told this newspaper.
Nearly 5,000 Aasara pensioners were unable to get pension so far this month due to cash shortage.
This demand from bank officials could prove to be double whammy for pensionees. In order to get their pension, they need to 10 notes of 100 and after receiving the pension too they have to face difficulties in getting Rs 2000 note accepted for small transactions. He said there was no scope of sufficient new notes being available in the coming two months.
