Task Force Meets on River Linking Projects: Godavari-Krishna, Penna-Cauvery

The Godavari project envisages diversion of 4,189 million cubic metres of water from to the Cauvery

Hyderabad: A meeting of the Task Force on Interlinking of Rivers (TFIR) will meet here on Friday to build consensus. On the agenda is the proposal to link the Godavari river from Ichampalli with Krishna river at Nagarujanasagar and the Penna at Somasila linking up with the Cauvery Grand Anicut project.

The Godavari project envisages diversion of 4,189 million cubic metres of water from to the Cauvery, with introduction of micro irrigation systems to improve water use efficiency.

The meet will also discuss Ken-Betwa link project being implemented as a national project after consensus was reached between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Friday’s meeting will be chaired by Sriram Vedire, TFIR chairman, and will be attended among others by chairman of the Central Water Commission, director general of the National Water Development Agency, secretaries of irrigation departments of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and expert members.
