NGOs Call for Public Disclosure and Judicial Inquiry into Kaleshwaram Project

Hyderabad: The Joint Action for Water and Citizens Against Pollution, two NGOs, on Thursday called for a full public disclosure of all documents related to Kaleshwaram project, both at the state and Central levels, and a full-scale judicial inquiry into the failure at the Medigadda barrage to establish liability and mete out punishment.

The groups also said accountability should be extended to all public persons involved in decision-making and oversight on the project. They said the state government was amalgamating multiple roles in one or two individuals, which was confusing for regulation, and the role of the Kaleshwaram Corporation and its culpability was being hidden.

They said the pre-project assessment was casual and non-adherence to standards prescribed by law was apparent, and called for preparation of a scientifically verifiable report on the extent of damage and to develop a proper, appropriate rehabilitation plan.
