Continue SPG cover to Gandhi family: Siddaramaiah

He urged the Union government to continue the SPG security for the Gandhi family and warned that Congress workers would otherwise hit the streets.

Mysuru: Former CM Siddaramaiah has questioned the withdrawal of SPG security for the Gandhi family and remarked that this amounts to dictatorship.

He urged the Union government to continue the SPG security for the Gandhi family and warned that Congress workers would otherwise hit the streets to protest.

Speaking at an emergency press meet at his residence in Mysuru on Friday, Siddaramaiah said, “Indira was assassinated by her own security personnel when she was prime minister. And later, Rajiv Gandhi was also assassinated.

Since there is a threat to their lives, SPG security was given to them. But now it has been withdrawn without giving a proper reason.

This is hate politics. If something happens to them, who will be responsible for it? On behalf of the Congress party, I urge the Centre to continue the SPG security for Ms Sonia Gandhi, Mr Rahul Gandhi and Ms Priyanka Gandhi,” he said.
