Chennai: Man stabs wife in bus stand
Chennai: A 32-year-old man stabbed his wife in full public view in the Soonambedu bus stand on Thursday evening. The accused has been identified as Natarajan (32) of Pudhupattu village in Soonambedu, Kancheepuram.
Natarajan married Devi (27) of Marakanam village in Villupuram district 10 years ago and the couple was living with their two daughters. Police sources said Devi may have developed an illicit relationship with Dhanancheziyan of Villupuram and the couple was quarrelling daily over the issue. The elders of the village tried to settle their problems but in vain.
On Wednesday, Natarajan picked up a fight with Devi again and she walked out of the house along with her two daughters, following which Natarajan lodged a "missing persons" complaint with the Soonambedu police station. Police registered a case and launched a search for Devi who was found later at a hideout in the village.
On Thursday, police held talks with Devi and Natarajan, which was when Devi told the police that she wanted to live with Dhanancheziyan. Officials thought the matter was settled then and there and let Devi go while the children were handed over to Natarajan. Meanwhile, on Thursday evening, when Devi was waiting to board a bus to Villupuram, Natarajan arrived at the spot and repeatedly stabbed Devi with a sharp knife.
The passengers waiting in the bus stop alerted the police who came to the spot arrested Natarajan and sent Devi to Rajiv Gandhi Government general hospital for treatment.
