Ariyalur barrage to benefit Thanjai also: Thamarai S Rajendran
Ariyalur: The proposed barrage across the river Kollidam at Thuthoor village in Ariyalur district will help not only the people of that district but also people of adjoining Thanjavur district, according to Tamil Nadu government’s chief whip Thamarai S. Rajendran.
Mr. Rajendran told newsmen at Thuthoor, after inspecting the site for the proposed barrage along with Dr K. Satyagopal, chairman and managing director Tamil Nadu Water Resources Conservation and Rivers Restoration Corporation, Ariyalur collector Ms.T. Rathna and others, said the proposed barrage will connect Thuthoor in Ariyalur district and Vazkkai in Thanjavur district and people of the two districts could thus save travel time.
He said the proposed barrage will also help to irrigate about 10,000 acres of dry and wet lands besides improving the ground water potential which resulted in the water level in the borewells and other wells will be raised.
He said the government has sanctioned Rs 23 lakh for land survey and conducting soil test in the selected place for the proposed barrage.
