Bengaluru: A day after mining baron Janardhan Reddy’s name figured in the alleged multi-crore ponzi scam, special teams from Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Thursday morning conducted raids in the houses of Janardhan Reddy in Ballari and Bengaluru and Ali Khan’s house in R.T. Nagar in the city.
According to police, Janardhan Reddy's house on Race Course road was opened by CCB, who took locksmiths with them. Ali Khan's house in R.T. Nagar was also raided where one of his relative roughed up journalists who were videographing him.
“We visited Janardhan Reddy's residence and seized documents pertaining to the case We haven't found anything from the CCTV footage. We were forced to issue search warrant as we had to seize the documents and get more details on the gold," DCP S. Girish said. He said the raid was carried out for around two hours.
The CCB team, headed by the ACP, Manjunath Chowdary on Thursday raided Janardhana Reddy's house in Ballari and gathered some files and documents from his residence. They also raided the Obulapuram Mining Company which is situated next to his residence in Ballari.
Another senior police official privy to the probe said the team is investigating as to how many invested and what all documents we can get from them to make our case watertight.
The CCB police raided Ali Khan's residence in RT Nagar to get more information about his link with the Ambidant company. During the raid, the police found five live bullets for which his relatives have reportedly submitted documents. Ali Khan has already secured anticipatory bail but is currently on run.
The CCB team after questioning Syed Ahmed Fareed on Thursday said that they came across involvement of some big names in the case. “We are following the money trial and are collecting the documents,” said an official.
Investors hold protest Hundreds of investors on Thursday staged a protest against the Ambidant Marketing Pvt Ltd office in Kanakanagar in DJ Halli police station limits.
The protesters demanded Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy's intervention and urged him to help them to get their money back.
The company had reportedly cheated more than 15,000 investors to the tune of '600 crore by promising them to give high interest rates.
The firm had promised investors returns up to 40-50% interest. Initially, the company paid good returns, but later after gained more number of investors, they began cheating them.
Syed Fareed Ahmed, owner of Ambidant Marketing was questioned by the CCB officials on Thursday, to get more information on Janardhana Reddy.
Teams sent to Andhra, Telangana Two CCB teams have been sent to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and to intensify their search for Janardhana Reddy.
