The Electronics and Information Technology (E&IT) department has constituted a committee of officials to inquire into these complaints.

E&IT additional secretary, Akshaya co-ordinator and a section officer of E&IT department are its other members.

According to sources, there were widespread complaints of Akshaya centres charging a fee for Aadhaar enrollment as well as collecting a higher fee than the prescribed for various online services of the government.

Some Akshaya centres were even found to be running marriage bureau.

They said the E&IT department, as well as Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB), used to receive scores of such complaints. But the Akshaya state office was not initiating timely actions. Hence the government decided to form the panel to look into them.

Meanwhile, an Akshaya entrepreneur told Deccan Chronicle that the service charges were fixed more than a decade ago and it was too low to meet the increasing expenses. Hence many were forced to charge extra.
