Hyderabad: Trouble for shops, as paths to be fenced

The owners said that it will keep customers at bay.

Hyderabad: The staircase at Gate B of ESI Hospital Metro Station is creating hurdles for shops nearby. Besides, many stores run parallel to the pedestrian walk at the station. The authorities are planning to fence it. The owners said that it will keep customers at bay.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) is planning to fence the path, making the shops inaccessible to all kinds of customers. Ms. S.Madhavi, who works at Vijaya Lakshmi Ayurvedic Hall, said, “The barricade will run across the front entrance of my shop. Officials said they will leave way for one customer to pass by.”

Fencing is being done to prevent accidents, said a Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited officer. Vijaya Lakshmi Ayurvedic Hall has a rear entrance but a transformer blocks the way. The HMRL official said, “Fencing will be done around all transformers for the safety of passengers.” The parking facility for Metro Rail passengers is allotted within a distance of 150 meters, said the official. Mr. K. Shekar, who owns Delight Bakery at the Gate A, said, “Vendors do not have parking facility now.”

The official said that vendors’ parking problem has been notified to the administration and talks are on to sort it out. Though a few shops are vacant, there are no takers. The staircase and the barricade will deny access to customers.
