21,878 acres now in Telangana's land bank

Hyderabad: The government has acquired 21,878 acres for irrigation projects since the formation of the state. The total land required is 67,010 acres and the rest of the 45,132 acres being acquired, irrigation minister T. Harish Rao said. Speaking in the Assembly on Wednesday, Mr Harish Rao said that the government had taken up eight projects, which are under various stages of execution. These projects included Palamuru-Ranga Reddy and Dindi lift irrigation schemes, Lower Penganga project including the Chanaka-Korata barrage, SRSP Punarjeevan Pathakam and Sadarmatt Barrage.

The government was also working on the Bhakta Ramadasu, Seetarama and Thummilla lift irrigation schemes.The land is being acquired as per the state government’s GO 123 and Centre’s Land Acquistion Act, 2013, depending on the choice of farmers.

For the Chanka-Korata barrage, of the 406 acres required, 246 acres had been acquired as per the GO 123. For the Palamur-RR project, the government required 27,022 acres of which 15,312 acres has been acquired. For the Dindi project, 15,998 acres was required, of which about 5,000 acres has been acquired.
