Mahila Garjana meets to attract women voters

The Congress is also coming up with various promises to woo women for the forthcoming elections.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee has initiated Mahila Garjana in order to get a hold on women’s votes. The TPCC plans to continue this in all other districts of Telangana state to flay the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and show the benefits that the Congress government will provide them.

In this regard, the TPCC has decided to flay caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and the TRS for not having a single woman as a minister in the state Cabinet for their entire tenure.

Speaking to this newspaper, TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy expressed confidence on winning the elections saying that the Congress party will form the government on December 12. “The Chief Minister has no respect for women. This is clear as there was no woman in his cabinet for his entire tenure. There have been no state governments or Central governments in independent India without a woman in the Cabinet. Mr Rao is the only one without a woman minister in his Cabinet. We urge the women to teach Mr Rao a lesson by voting for the Congress. We will take the issue to all corners of Telangana,” he said.

The Congress is also coming up with various promises to woo women for the forthcoming elections. These include giving '1 lakh grant all women’s self help groups in the state within 100 days of forming government and '10 lakh loan for self-help groups without any interest. The TPCC also promises to reintroduce the Abhaya Hastam scheme and give six free LPG gas cylinders to all white card holders. Along with the ration the SC and ST will also get the free power up to 200 units, it said.

Meanwhile, the TPCC initiated its first Mahila Garjana in Quthbullapur constituency in Hydera-bad on Monday. Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy, Ms Aruna and other senior leaders took part in the programme.

Mr Uttam said, “All women in the state were happy during the tenure of the Congress, where the then Chief Minister Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy took up several initiatives for their welfare. The Congress promises women that we will always work for their empowerment. The Congress government will pay '5 lakh towards construction of a double bedroom house. The Setti Balija community will also be included in the BC category.”
