Telangana lorry panel to join strike today

The two-day strike may affect the supply of vegetables and essential commodities to the city markets.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Lorry Owners’ Association (TLOA) on Sunday announced that its members would be participating in the two-day national strike called by the All India Motor Transport Congress, the All India Transporters’ Welfare Association and the South India Motor Transport Association.

TLOA president N. Bhaskar Reddy and general secretary G. Durga Prasad said truck drivers would not operate services on Monday and Tuesday.

“All associations have given a call for a strike against the daily revision of diesel prices, toll taxes, and extortion by police, officials of the transport department, at the staff at checkpoints,” they said. The two-day strike may affect the supply of vegetables and essential commodities to the city markets.

Asked about this, an official of the marketing department say that they had arranged for the supply of vegetables to the city by medium and small goods vehicles. The transport department is assisting them in their efforts, the official said.
