Heavy rains pound Hyderabad, leave roads in shambles

Trees were uprooted in the Old City and cars partially damaged. There was no power in parts of East and South Zones.

Hyderabad: Heavy rains on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon have damaged city and created the usual potholes. Even national highways passing through the city are badly damaged with sinkholes and washed out bitumen.

While the heavy rain on Saturday night and early hours of Sunday badly hit East, Central and South zones of the city, the rain on Sunday afternoon hit other parts of the city and outskirts as well.

Houses and colonies in Amberpet, Ramanthapur, Shivam Road, Alwal, Bowenpally, Hasmathpet, Kukatpally, Serilingam-pally, Vanasthalipuram, LB Nagar, Hayathnagar, Uppal, Gachibowli, Langar Houz, Mehdipatnam, Mallepally, Bahdurpura, Chandrayangutta, Malakpet, Dabeerpura and Saidabad were inundated and internal colony roads were flooded with rain water.

Waterlogging on main city roads gave commuters a bad time. The areas badly affected were Pillar No. 100 near Moghal Ka Nala, Nanalnagar free left area, under Langer Houz flyover, Putlibowli towar-ds Sultan Bazaar (entire Koti), Che Number near Amberpet, entire Nimboli-adda, Ramanthapur (near TV studio), Siddimbar Bazaar, Rang Mahal, RTC Crossroads, at Hyderabad Police commissioner's office, PG Law College, Bowenpally and KBR Park.

In Kukatpally, near Usha Mullapudi, a sinkhole developed under the Mumbai National Highway and traffic police diverted traffic to one side of the highway. Though the GHMC and HMWS&SB have begun repair work, traffic was not allowed.
