Fix roads or no votes: Residents
Bengaluru: Those residing on the Thubarahalli Vibgyor School Road on Sunday set out a clear message to their elected representatives to either fix the road or they will not cast a single vote in the forthcoming assembly elections.
For Vibgyor School, which has 5,000 students on its rolls, and over 13 apartment located nearby the road is the only link to the Varthur Main Road.
It has been neglected from the past many years and after the current wet spell it has become a nightmare for motorists. The road falls under Doddanekkundi ward, represented by its corporator Shwetha Vijayakumar.
The road has hardly any asphalt cover and is ridden with potholes. We need to find road amidst big craters or death traps. During many occasions people travelling on the road have slipped and fallen from their two-wheelers, said Priyanka, a resident. Residents took a “No Road, No Vote” vow for any of the forthcoming election, including the assembly poll, if the road isn't restored.
Angry residents aren't in any mood to accept any explanation from BBMP.
According to BBMP officials it is a private road and the civic body cannot restore it. A court case is currently on regarding its ownership, they added.
The residents had raised the issue with Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George during his city rounds. The Minister was appraised by the officials that a case in under trial and four private landowners have approached the court and got a stay order on the developmental works on the 12 km long stretch preventing BBMP from taking any developmental works, said Ramamurthy, a resident.
“Mr George suggested officials to take suitable action to get the stay vacated. But no progress yet,” he added. With the current When it rains, the road literally becomes a hell, residents complained and took an owe, “No Road, No Vote.”
