Nagarahole, Bandipur tiger projects will be parched: Seetharam

As animals arrive to quench their thirst, they would get stuck in the silt and perish.

Mysuru: Senior Congress leader and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s aide, Seetharam, has submitted a memorandum to a team of experts, led by chairman of the Central Water Commissioner (CWC), G S Jha, dispatched by the Union government to assess the situation in Cauvery basin region, highlighting the need for water in particular for wild life of Nagarahole and Bandipur tiger projects and Kakanakote forest range.

The Congress leader has stated that in case of a sudden flow of large amount of water on a single day, the emptied area would be left with silt in back waters of Kabini reservoir. As animals arrive to quench their thirst, they would get stuck in the silt and perish.

Besides, villages around Kabini face frequent animal attacks. If the reservoir turns empty without drinking water, more animals could move towards villages in search of water, Mr Seetharam has stated. He has appealed to the experts to factor in the need for water for water in game sanctuaries and forest areas.
