Temporary bus stand started functioning from Sunday.

THANJAVUR: Traders who have shops in old and Thiruvaiyaru bus stands, which have been shifted to a temporary bus stand on Kasi Pillaiyar Koil street, opposite to state transport corporation workshop, staged a demonstration on Sunday demanding removal of iron fencing put before old and Thiruvaiyaru bus stands.

They said that they have not been informed properly about shifting of the bus stands to a temporary place for taking up construction works in the old and Thiruvaiyaru bus stands under smart city programme.

Temporary bus stand started functioning from Sunday.

Traders who own shops in the old and Thiruvaiyaru bus stands were shocked to see iron fencing before the bus stands as they could not enter their shops.

Ganesan, district president of Traders association said, iron fencing should be removed and they should be permitted to run the shops in old and Thiruvaiyaru bus stands till Deepavali.

Later, they should be provided alternate places till reconstruction works are completed.

After reconstruction works are completed, they should be given priority in getting shops in the old and Thiruvaiyaru bus stands.

Even as the traders were agitating, a bus which came that side ran over the leg of a woman passenger.

The injured woman was shifted to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital in a police van.

Tension prevailed for sometime due to this in the area.
