Hyderabad: Morning explosion spreads panic, has cops on toes

The police presence caused a traffic jam in the area and at least 20 traffic constables were deployed.

Hyderabad: The explosion at Rajen-dranagar which claimed a life on Sunday caused some worry to security agencies, coming days before the Muharram procession and the Ganesha idol immersion festivities.

Police personnel from different wings and officials of the Intelligence, Counter Intelligence Cell and OCTOPUS (Organi-sation for Counter-Terrorist Operations) inspected the scene. The Clues team, bomb squad, dog squad, and officials from the Special Branch, Special Operations Team, Task Force and personnel from adjoining police stations inspected the place. The police presence caused a traffic jam in the area and at least 20 traffic constables were deployed.

The cops said that the place where the explosion took place has a partially covered manhole of an non-functional drainage line and the locals used to dump garbage in it. Rajendranagar inspector G. Suresh said “The bag is suspected to have contained some explosive material and it is being analysed... When he tried to open the bag, it exploded and he lost both the arms, and succumbed,” he said.
