GHMC springs surprise, works hard on holiday

The additional commissioner (entomology) Shruthi Ojha was also seen around.

Hyderabad: To the surprise of the residents of the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's entomology wing came to their homes on Sunday to fumigate and spray the premises. The additional commissioner (entomology) Shruthi Ojha was also seen around.

The entire entomology wing hit the city roads on Sunday despite it being a holiday, and raised awareness about seasonal and vector-borne diseases and asked residents to ensure that there was no stagnant water in old tyres and containers lying around their premises.

The team conducted anti larval operations around a 50-metre radius of houses where malaria and dengue cases have been reported. Inspections were done by the additional commissioner in Quthbullapur, Kushaiguda and Musheerabad. The municipal staff announced preventive and hygiene measures residents should adopt through jingles played from the loudspeakers of their vehicles.

The entomology wing also inspected the home of Rithika, a year-old child who died of dengue in Ayodhyanagar, Quthbullapur, and conducted indoor residual spraying (IRS) and anti larval operations.
