Tiruppur: Rs 1 crore to mishap victim who lost vision

Tirupur: In what came as a consolation and an amicable settlement for a road accident victim, officials at a Lok Adalat meet here on Saturday, worked out a settlement between the parties involved, and paid Rs 1 crore as compensation to the victim, who completely lost vision in both eyes.

According to officials, Jayaprakash Boopathi (47), resident of Amarjothi Garden here, was working at a dyeing unit as manager in 2013.

He was returning home on his bike along with wife on March 10, 2013, when he collided with another motorbike rider, at Boyampalayam in Perumanallur.

He sustained serious injuries and was treated at a private hospital in Coimbatore, but suffered total loss of vision in both eyes.

Later, he filed a petition at the Tirupur court against the motorbike rider, bike owner and Sri Ram general insurance company, demanding compensation. The trial was going on at the additional session court here.

Meantime, under instructions of judge Mohammed Jiyavudeen, both parties were invited for a LokAdalat meet here on Saturday, to reach a consensus.

A compromise was worked out in the presence of district principal judge Alli, and officials decided to provide '1 crore as compensation to Jayaprakash. Subsequently, a cheque for '1 crore was handed over to him.
