BJP operation to topple H D Kumaraswamy government underway?
Bengaluru: The sudden return of BJP state president, B.S. Yeddyurappa from Delhi without attending his party’s national executive meeting has set tongues wagging, with some even speculating that a BJP operation to bring down the coalition government could be underway.
But sources close to the former Chief Minister downplayed the importance of his return to Bengaluru, saying he had been forced to leave Delhi to attend to some personal engagements. They said he had taken permission from the party national president, Amit Shah, to leave midway through the party national executive meeting.
A BJP MLA pointed out that toppling the coalition government would not be easy.
“We need over 13 MLAs to form the government. Moreover, no one is willing to risk quitting the Assembly at this juncture. If we try to bring down the government, the Congress may try to break the Bharatiya Janata Party too and it needs only three of our MLAs to cross over. So there is no immediate threat to the government," he clarified.
While there may be no attempt to topple the Kumaraswamy government as of now, the BJP is waiting for disgruntled Congress MLAs to form a separate group in the Assembly to makes it move, say sources. Mr. Yeddyurappa is believed to be already approaching upset Congress MLAs and eyeing the dissident activity in the ruling Congress , especially the ongoing battle of the Jarkiholi brothers with the party leadership, with interest.
