Will initiate legal steps for floor test: MK Stalin

Party will wait for governor's action on request.

Chennai: DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Friday said the DMK would initiate legal action as well as mobilise people to bring down Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s government if Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao did not discharge his duty within a specific time frame.

He said a delegation of DMK leaders would meet the Governor on September 10 and ask him to order a floor test. The party would wait for a specific time to see if the Governor initiates action on the request.

Speaking at a marriage function in Thanjavur, he said the DMK’s aim was not to capture power by toppling the state government but to protect the people and the state.

Countering charges that educational standard in Tamil Nadu was low, Stalin said the state produced the first woman doctor and it had the highest number of medical colleges in the state. Neet was aimed at stopping the poor and rural students from becoming doctors, he alleged.

He said the state government is in a minority since 22 AIADMK (Amma) MLAs had stated that they had no faith in the state government. He also pointed out that only 109 MLAs took part in the meeting convened by Palaniswami even according to the ruling party’s own claims.
