Congress stalling growth: TRS

The minister said Congress leaders were blocking measures like paying special input subsidy and other welfare measures for farmers.

Hyderabad: Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao on Friday said that while the previous Congress governments were known to keep irrigation projects pending, the TRS government was known for completing and get the projects running.

Speaking to mediapersons at the Assembly, Mr Harish Rao accused Congress leaders of behaving like “sadists” by trying to stall development work in the state. He said TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy and other Congress leaders were making it a point to counter and oppose each and every scheme the TRS government was proposing for for the welfare of the people, especially farmers.

He condemned Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy’s statement that the TRS’ three-year rule was “a curse on farmers”. “It only indicates the accumulated intolerance and jealousy of Congress leaders who did nothing when in power and are now opposing whatever we are doing,” he said.

The minister said Congress leaders were blocking measures like paying special input subsidy and other welfare measures for farmers. He refuted the allegations of the Congress leaders that farmers belonging to the TRS alone would get benefits. “There is no system of incharge ministers like it was during Congress rule. We do not see the political affiliations of farmers,” he said.

He said that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has granted special funds to all Assembly constituencies, even those held by Opposition leaders, and is no discrimination as is being alleged.
