Bengaluru: Head of Arabic College dies

His Namaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayer) will be held at Sabeelur Rashad Arabic College at 10 am on Saturday.

Bengaluru: Maulana Mufti Mohammed Ashraf Ali Baqavi (77), head of Darul-Uloom Sabeelur Rashad Arabic College and Islamic Shariah College, Bengaluru, passed away at a private hospital in the city on Friday after a prolonged illness.

Maulana Ashraf Ali, who was born on February 26, 1940, at Virinjipuram (Bilanjpur) North Arcot, Tamil Nadu, was actively involved in the Islamic movements and was propagating Islamic teachings since he completed his Alimiyat course.

He was also a working committee member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, vice-president of All India Milli Council and a member of the working committee of Islamic Fiqh Academy.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and several other political leaders, including K. Rahman Khan, Roshan Baig, Rizwan Arshad and Zameer Ahmed Khan, mourned his death. His Namaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayer) will be held at Sabeelur Rashad Arabic College at 10 am on Saturday.
