For a Quantum of Solace: Karnataka writes its grievances to Cauvery panel
New Delhi/Bengaluru: The Karnataka government wrote to the Cauvery Supervisory Committee panel on Thursday, laying out its grievances on the release of water with the Supervisory Committee now set to meet in the capital New Delhi on Monday to decide on the quantum of the river's water to be released by water-starved Karnataka to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The letter by the state's Chief Secretary said, “The Karnataka government is of the view that the Supervisory Committee should immediately send an expert inspection team headed by an officer of the rank of chief engineer as was done by the Cauvery Monitoring Committee in Oct. 2012, to study the ground realities in the Cauvery basin."
Tamil Nadu government approached the Committee on Wednesday with its demand for more water. The Cauvery Supervisory Committee, headed by Union Water Resources Secretary Shashi Shekhar, will meet on September 12. Chief secretaries of four states, and officials from the Central Water Commission will attend.
