Bengaluru demolition: Marking resumes, but not many surveyors
Bengaluru: After a brief halt to the demolition drive on raja kaluves, the BBMP started the marking process of illegal constructions on drains on Thursday. In Mahadevapura and Yelahanka zone, the BBMP officials, along with surveyors, identified the buildings that stood on encroached drain area. Although demolitions were supposed to start soon after Ganesha Chaturthi, due to lack of surveyors in some zones the marking process got delayed.
In Yelahanka zone, Joint Commissioner Sarfaraz Khan said illegal constructions were marked for demolition in Bommasandra, Thindlu, Puttenahalli and parts of Thannisandra-Kogilu. He said that more than 60 buildings were already demolished in Bommasandra and though there were not many buildings left, a lot of properties would be demolished in Thindlu.
“The marking process will be completed over the weekend. However, due to bandh and Bakrid on Tuesday, the demolition will start only from Wednesday,” he maintained. Further, in Mahadevapura zone too many buildings were marked for demolition though no properties were razed.
Meamwhile, Bommanahalli zone joint commissioner Muniraju said that marking process was delayed in his zone due to lack of surveyors.
“The BBMP commissioner has informed us that 28 surveyors have been recently deputed to complete the survey process. We need at least 5 surveyors in Bommanahalli zone to conduct the resurvey and initiate illegal constructions’ marking. Though there are reports identifying encroachments, we do not want to take any chance since there was a lot of confusion regarding demolition last time. We are being cautious,” he maintained.
Muniraju said that major demolitions would take place between Uttarahalli-Chunchaghatta valley, Chunchaghatta-Sarakki, Sarakki-Madiwala and Kudlu-Aralu Kere. “Most of the newly constructed buildings have encroached upon raja kaluve or lake area. We will bring down all the illegal buildings,” he said.
Survey report available
Rajarajeshwari Nagar joint commissioner Veerabhadrappa said although the survey report of his zone was available with the BBMP commissioner, marking process had not begun due to holidays and the long weekend. “There are a series of holidays starting from Karnataka bandh till Bakrid on Tuesday. Though markings were supposed to begin from Tuesday, surveyors did not turn up. Now, we decided to resume the process after the holidays are over,” he said.
