Dynastic politics, graft must Quit India': PM

New Delhi: Paying tributes to the freedom fighters who participated in the Quit India Movement under Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, in an apparent jibe at the Opposition, asserted that the country "is now speaking in one voice against corruption, dynasticism and appeasement".

"Tributes to the greats who took part in the Quit India movement. Under the leadership of Gandhi Ji, this movement played a major role in freeing India from colonial rule…Today, India is saying in one voice: Corruption Quit India. Dynasty Quit India. Appeasement Quit India," tweeted the Prime Minister.

Explaining the Prime Minister’s message, the BJP said "dynasticism, corruption and appeasement" are the three evils of politics, which must "Quit India" in the best interest of the country.

Commemorating the Quit India movement, launched by Mahatma Gandhi on August 9, 1942, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad lambasted the Opposition alliance "INDIA", alleging that it is nothing but a "ghamandiya" alliance, which promotes corruption, dynasticism and appeasement.

"Where there is parivarvad, there exists corruption. Where there is corruption, there is appeasement… All these are three ills that form the dirty triangle of India’s politics," said the BJP leader as he quoted scams under the UPA regime and the scams in Bihar during former chief minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s rule. He also spoke about scams that took place in the TMC, DMK and TRS-ruled states.

"For the sake of India's security and integrity, it is important that these three ills — blatant family rule, corruption and shameful appeasement — quit India," said Prasad while addressing the media.

The BJP claimed that if the democratic fabric of the country is to be safeguarded, "probity in politics has to be brought back and saved in the country; these three curses have to quit India."

Asserting that the BJP is against dynastic politics and not against the son or daughter of a politician coming to politics and contesting elections, Prasad explained that dynastic politics means "the son or daughter of a politician running the party as its chief, becoming Prime Minister or chief minister or becoming the party's Prime Ministerial or chief ministerial candidate."

"This is called parivarvaad, in which there is no space for ordinary party workers and leaders," said the former Union minister.

Taking a swipe at the Congress, Prasad said "packaging and repackaging" of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will keep happening, but it is for the leaders of that party to see how much capacity he has "to become the leader of this great country."

He also took a swipe at the Congress for calling Gandhi a "Jan Nayak", saying the people had given this title to former Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur for his great contributions.

"When raag darbaar is played in 'darbari' culture, several dissonant ragas also emerge," he said.

Labelling the Opposition's INDIA alliance ghamandiya, the BJP leader targeted the RJD, TMC and DMK, accusing their top leaders of carrying forward dynastic politics.

"Family rule is inherently undemocratic and irresponsible… Parivaar needs the support of the corrupt to continue their politics. Appeasement is a significant part of their political thoughts," the BJP leader alleged.

On Wednesday, the BJP MPs also staged a demonstration at the Parliament House complex, seeking the banishment of dynasty politics, corruption and appeasement politics from the country.
