High alert sounded in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: The district administration has sounded a high alert to minimise rain-related calamities in the state capital. No major incidents were reported here on Thursday.

Trees were uprooted on Wednesday night following heavy rain and wind. Power outages struck many parts, but the KSEB fixed the issue immediately. The Coast Guards brought back two persons who had gone to the sea.

Collector K. Gopalakrishnan convened an emergency meeting to review the situation in the district and directed the officials to be on high alert.

The district administration has opened a control room with emergency numbers 1077 and 1070 to address public grievances.

It has advised the public not to travel to hilly areas. The Ponmudi hill station was closed.

The collector directed to chop off tree branches along roadsides and remove huge hoardings which could pose a threat to the public.
