Hyderabad: A PIL has been moved before the Hyderabad High Court seeking to direct the state government and director of archeology department to take steps to protect the Sir Ronald Ross Institute of Parasitological at Begumpet.

Ch. Veera Chari, a resident of Mettuguda, moved the PIL on behalf of Weltech Foundation, an NGO, urging the court to direct the authorities concerned to carry out repairs to the age-old buildings on the premises of the institute.

The petitioner brought to the notice of the court that the institute was established in 1955 and it was named after Sir Ronald Ross, winner of Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, 1902. The petitioner urged the court to direct the authorities to declare it as historic institute and convert it into a museum for students and the general public.
