Hyderabad: The sudden change in weather oscillating between heavy rains and scorching heat is affecting the health of the public with several cases of low grade viral fever, dry cough and cold being recorded.
Dry cough is a common complaint reported by people. Dr Anish Anand, senior general physician at Apollo Hospitals explained, “Dry cough is due to the allergens and pollution. Often it is the effect of the viral fever. With the rains getting delayed and the erratic weather conditions, the body is not able to deal with the sudden changes. The strong wind movements cause the spread of viruses from one place to another and that leads to viral fevers which are self-limiting in nature.”
A lot of patients are asking for remedies for the dry cough as that is becoming a worrying problem for them. Dr G. Srinivas Rao, senior general physician explained, “The dry cough is because of the dry weather conditions. It escalates if the person does not take enough water. Exposure to smoke and construction sites increases it further.”
Experts state that to deal with the cough, people must not rush for medications until and unless required. They must ensure that the body is hydrated by drinking sufficient water and avoiding those places where there is a construction going on or places where there is extremely high vehicular pollution. This will help the body as the allergic reaction can be controlled. Often people are not found to drink sufficient water and that leads to dehydration.
