GHMC at a loss of words over missing land
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has failed to protect lands which it had leased out. Due to apathy of civic body officials, the numbers of leased lands have decreased from 278 to 91 over the past four decades.
Surprisingly, the number had further declined to 73 but the corporation staff found 18 leased lands on the ground level during a geo-tagging exercise. According to the Town Survey Land Records (TSLR) of the Hyderabad Collectorate, there are 275 leased lands.
Of these, the GHMC estate wing, during inventory of its properties, could trace only 104 files. Out of the 91 leased properties, 50 are in the Central Zone, 32 in the South Zone, 13 in the North Zone and the remaining are also in the North Zone. However, these details were found only on paper.
When asked about the missing leased lands, corporation officials were reluctant to provide details and said that 18 lands were of 50 square yards which would make no difference to the civic body.
However, officials claimed there were 2,229 markets, 874 complexes and 91 leased lands in the record books and the actual number would emerge after the geo-tagging process was completed.
