Hyderabad: Complaint over selling of Wakf land

The total extent of the Ashoorkhana property in the Wakf records is 36.34 acres.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Wakf Board has lodged a complaint with the Rein Bazaar police against few people who allegedly sold 36 acres of land and properties valued at crores of rupees belonging to the Aashoorkhana Hussaini at Yakutpura.

The scandal came to light after a complaint was made at the TS Wakf Board earlier this year by the Shia community. An inspection was carried out by the TS Wakf Board team who found that the Wakf properties were “grabbed” by some persons and later sold. In fact, the registration department of the State government registered the land on the name of various persons who had “purchased” the property.

The total extent of the Ashoorkhana property in the Wakf records is 36.34 acres. Nevertheless, as the property was sold over a period of time, several colonies have come up on the land.

Syed Haneef Ali, a Shia leader, said that the board did not have a fair idea of the extent of the property and the fact that the registration department was registering deeds. “Only after being alerted the officials ordered an enquiry and found that the Wakf property was sold by a family,” he said.

The chief executive officer of the TS Wakf Board, Shahnawaz Qasim, said, two persons, Jeelani Begum and Chandni Begum and few others had sold one of the wakf properties and demanded the police initiate action against them. The TS Wakf Board is identifying few more persons who had allegedly siphoned off the land.

Following the complaint, the Rein Bazaar police registered a case and took up a probe.
