Bengaluru: KEA tweaks engineering counselling to help aspirants

The optional entry process for the second round extended allotment will begin within a day of the allotment of medical seats.

Bengaluru: In a respite for medical and engineering aspirants in the state, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) will tweak the counselling schedule for the second extended round of allotment for engineering seats.

KEA Executive Director R. Vinothpriya said that the decision will avoid many seats lying vacant after three rounds of counselling. “We are now waiting for the all-India quota list from the central government which is expected to reach us by Thursday morning. The optional entry process for the second round extended allotment will begin within a day of the allotment of medical seats. This will ensure allotments and counselling in a student-friendly manner,” she told Deccan Chronicle. Sufficient time will be given for students for optional entry to avoid panic-like situation, she said.

Sruthi, a medical aspirant from the city, said the new decision will help the aspirants. “If KEA went ahead with the earlier engineering extended round, candidates like me would have blocked an engineering seat to avoid us losing a year if results of

medical allotment were not in our favour. Now, applicants can pursue their interest without any pressure,” she said.

Sachin, an engineering aspirant, said that he now stands a better chance of getting a seat as medical aspirants would not block engineering seats unnecessarily.

KEA officials said that medical seat allotments will be completed by August 12 and the second extended round engineering allotments will begin from the next day.
