Hyderabad: Baby roadrollers to fix potholes
Hyderabad: GHMC West Zone introduced baby roadrollers in four circles as hand vibrators, which were used to fix instant potholes, were not serving the purpose. GHMC has been frequently accused of slipshod work when it comes to filling up potholes on city roads.
Road rollers are used to compact the surface after it is laid. However, for filling pot holes, pan vibrators are being used. As sufficient pressure was not applied using pan vibrators, the potholes did not remain closed for long. Several citizens have time and again complained about the shoddy work
At a cost of Rs 4 lakhs, these baby roadrollers will allow sufficient pressure to ensure the potholes doesn't erode. These roadrollers will follow instant repair vehicles. Each circle has two instant repair vehicles and one baby roadroller. Depending on the kind of usage in a month or so, the civic body will procure more. These roadrollers have been put to test on Tuesday at Chandanagar circle.
Harichandana Dasari, Zonal Commissioner, said: “We have bought four such baby roadrollers that are being put to use in all four circles under my purview. It is the first time we are doing it in the city. Based on the efficacy of these, for a month or so, we will procure the next round.”
