YSR helped Maoists in attempt to kill me in 2003: Chandrababu Naidu

Chandrababu Naidu alleges late YS Rajasekhar Reddy helped Maoists in 2003 assassination attempt.

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has alleged that his predecessor late YS Rajashekhar Reddy was involved in the Maoists rebels' plot to kill him in 2003.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president's allegation came in response to Reddy's son and YSR Congress president, YS Jaganmohan Reddy's recent comment where they said Naidu should be shot dead in public for allegedly cheating people with false promises, Hindustan Times reported.

On October 2, 2003, Naidu survived an assasination attempt when a landmine missed his vehicle while he was on his way to Tirumala hills.

Reddy had allegedly helped the maoists and provided support by funding their attempt and provided mobile phones through one of his supporters, Gangi Reddy, the report added.

Gangi Reddy was arrested earlier this year in a red sanders smuggling case.

“Jagan has a criminal brain. And that is the reason why he talks of killing me,” Naidu said on Tuesday.

“What crime have I committed? Even in the past, he asked people to beat me with chappals. But I never lost my cool. Even when his father conspired to eliminate me, I did not express my anger,” Naidu added.

Naidu added that after he became chief minister, Rajashekar Reddy had tried to reduce his security and denied accomodation facility to the Special Protection Group commandoes.

“But I never complained and maintained poise,” he said.

After YSR's death in 2009, Naidu and Reddy have often had spats, accusing each other of betraying the state and its people.
