Tamil Nadu CM inaugurates Rs 24.1 crore new storage facilities for farmers

The new structures built at a cost of Rs 24.1 crore will benefit farmers based in Dharmapuri and Thanjavur districts.

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswamy inaugurated five new storage facilities for the benefit of farmers and small traders at a function held here at the state secretariat on Monday. The new structures built at a cost of Rs 24.1 crore will benefit farmers based in Dharmapuri and Thanjavur districts.

A press release from the state secretariat said that the three storage facilities with a capacity of 5,000 metric tonnes each at Nallampalli village in Dharmapuri district and two of 7,000 metric tonne each capacity at Nanjikottai village in Thanjavur district were inaugurated through video conferencing.

The facilities were set up by the Tamil Nadu Warehousing Corporation. The unveiling of new storage facilities comes in the backdrop of the late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's announcement in the Assembly that such facilities would be set up by the corporation, an official release said. The Chief Minister also unveiled the Coimbatore Co-operative Bank's branch building in that city, constructed at a cost of Rs 61 lakh. Minister for Co-operation Sellur K. Raju, higher education minister K. P. Anbalagan, minister for food and civil supplies R. Kamaraj and chief secretary Girija Vaidyanthan were among those who were present on the occasion, it added.
