Khammam District Consumer Forum orders ICICI Lombard to pay dead man's kin
Hyderabad: The Khammam District Consumer Forum has ordered ICICI Lombard to pay Rs 72,000 in the form of an insurance payout, to the wife of a deceased man.
The complainant’s husband had purchased a scooter which came with an ICICI Lombard Nibhaye Vaade Accident Protection Scheme cover for a period of two years.
He met with a fatal accident in August 2015. The complainant notified the company about the accident in order to claim the payout, but its representatives remained evasive. The complainant then issued them a legal notice.
The company denied having issued such a policy with the complainant as the nominee. It said there was no deficiency in service.
The forum said that the papers were valid and that the complainant was indeed the legal nominee. Invoking a previous order, the forum said the complainant had filed all relevant documents.
Identifying a deficiency in service, the forum asked the company to pay the complainant Rs 72,000 with 9 per cent interest from 2016 to the date of payment.
