Bangkok calling! Thailand beckons Bengalureans

Thailand welcomed around 8 lakh Indian tourists up till July 2017 which has risen by 16% percent compared to 2016.

Bengaluru: Thailand tourism is expecting 14% increase in the revenue from Indian market this year. Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Deputy Governor for International Marketing (Asia and the South Pacific) Srisuda Wanapinyosak said that Bengaluru contributes to a significant 10% of Thailand’s arrivals out of India.

“Recently we have witnessed that Bengalureans are open to exploring new experiences like diving, golfing and food tasting and to fulfill the needs of such these experiences, TAT introduces new and unexplored regions of Thailand year on year,” she added.

After a sharp rise in the number of tourists from the Garden City, Tourism Authority of Thailand has created special mobile applications like ‘Family Fun’ and ‘Women’s Journey’. Soraya Homchuen, Director Tourism Authority of Thailand, Mumbai expects travel agents to look the regions beyond Bangkok and Pattaya.

On a global scale, India is ranked 6th in terms of tourist arrivals in Thailand and South India contributes around 30% from the overall footfalls from India. As per the recent numbers released by Department of Tourism, in 2017, Thailand welcomed around 8 lakh Indian tourists up till July 2017 which has risen by 16% percent compared to 2016.

The focus destinations for 2017-18 will be mainly on Hua Hin, Cha-AM, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Krabi, Trat, Phuket, Pattaya and Bangkok. For 2018 the focus will be on local Thai cuisine and international gastronomy.
