Yamanur: Karnataka High Court tells state to form medical teams, treat victims

The state sought time to submit report on the number of victims treated.

BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Monday ordered the state government to form a team of doctors to treat victims, who were allegedly beaten up by policemen during a Karnataka bandh against the Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal verdict recently. It directed the state not to limit the treatment to victims lodged in jails and to send teams to villages in Dharwad district. The state informed the court that the victims have been treated. But the court expressed dissatisfaction, saying many victims were still suffering. The state sought time to submit report on the number of victims treated.

PIL over Bellandur Lake pollution
A PIL has been filed before the High Court alleging that the Bellandur Lake is highly polluted. “Already, a committee has been constituted by the government which has submitted a report suggesting some remedies. However, the Bengaluru Development Authority is issuing no objection certificates to intending builders … without adhering to the suggestions of the committee,” PIL alleged. The BDA sought time, while the court adjourned the hearing to August 17.

Vacancies in police dept
The high court on Monday asked the state government to initiate the process to recruit at least 50% of the total vacancies in the police department. The court made the observation while expressing displeasure over the inaction of the government in taking any significant steps to fill the vacancies.
