Telangana: 6,720 cops to guard pushkar

Mahbubnagar district SP Rema Rajeshwari said all the 52 ghats would be under CCTV coverage with 300 cameras and have interceptor teams.

Hyderabad: The Mahbubnagar district police will deploy 6,720 personnel at the 52 pushkaram ghats in the district for the 12-day event beginning from August 12. Of these, 3,920 personnel will be brought from other districts.

The pushkaram force includes eight additional SPs, by 36 DSPs, 151 circle inspectors, 582 sub inspectors 852 assistant sub inspectors, 3,739 constables and head constables, 1,046 Home Guards and 310 armed reserve personnel. Besides, Special Branch and Central Crime Station and intelligence teams would monitor the pilgrims to spot criminals.

Mahbubnagar district SP Rema Rajeshwari said all the 52 ghats would be under CCTV coverage with 300 cameras and have interceptor teams. The control room to monitor CCTV pictures has been set up at the Beechpally temple.

Besides, five watch towers were being constructed at Krishna, Pasupula, Beech-pally, Rangapur and Somaila ghats. Each ghat will be supervised by an additional SP rank official and each temple will be given protection under supervision of DSPs.

Official have planned to deploy 900 personnel at Beechpally and Rangapur in three shifts, 500 at Somasila, 450 at Patalaganga, 300 each at Krishna and Pasupula.

Ms Rajeshwari said a comprehensive plan for traffic management was in place, with 1,566 personnel. About 25 parking places had been established at major ghats. Police plans to allow one-way traffic on the roads to the ghats.
